Havurah on the Hill
Vilna Shul
18 Phillips Street, Boston

info@vilnashul.org
http://vilnashul.org/events/event/high_holidays_2014_5775
This fall, Havurah on the Hill (HOH), in collaboration with the Synagogue Council of Massachusetts, will once again host High Holidays services at the historic Vilna Shul on Beacon Hill in Boston. Services will be led by Rebecca Blumenfeld and Deborah Melkin. Last year we had a wonderful turnout from all over our community, and we look forward to welcoming back those who attended last year as well as those of you who have never been to the Vilna Shul!
HOH’s services are non-denominational, egalitarian, and open to all. Services are conducted in Hebrew with English readings mixed in. As part of our learning services mission, we provide explanations and teachings throughout. Services are community-led, with a variety of familiar melodies and tunes.
Tickets will be issued on a first come, first served basis, and only 300 tickets will be issued per holiday. Please note this is a pre-paid event, and in order to be on the RSVP list, payment for this event is required by Tuesday, September 23rd. We do not mail out tickets; instead your name will be on the pre-paid ticket list at the door. The suggested donations for High Holidays tickets are as follows:
HOH High Holidays General Donations/Students
For either Rosh Hashanah or Yom Kippur $72 $54
For both Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur $118 $96
Click on
http://form.jotform.us/form/41985723592163 to purchase tickets.
Havurah on the Hill's services are made possible through the help of its community volunteers, and this fall we're looking for Torah readers, Haftarah readers, and Shofar Blowers. English reading parts are also available. Please let us know how you can help on our event registration page (above), and contact Aron Neesman (
aneesman@gmail.com) for more information.
Please note: If you cannot afford the suggested amount per ticket, please donate what you can. To do this, click on the green button above and fill out the form as you would for any other ticket and use step 4 "Ticket Donations in Other Amounts." In the spirit of chesed, the Jewish tradition of acts of kindness, we encourage those who have the means to make an additional donation in support of others in the HOH community who cannot afford it.
If you would like to pay by check, please make it payable to Vilna Shul High Holidays. Please enclose the names of all attendees and indicate

Rosh Hashanah
Thursday, September 25, 2014 2:30PM – 3:30PM

The High Holidays are a time to joyfully gather in community, share stories, sing songs and reflect on the year. BJEP High Holiday family services at Brandeis University—one for families with children ages 7 and under and the other for those 7+— integrate tradition and creativity. They’re open to the public, and all are welcome! Both services run about an hour and are held near each another, so families can split up or stay together. On Rosh Hashanah, a light Kiddush follows the services.

Ma'yan Tikvah celebrates the High Holidays in the woods with morning services on Rosh HaShanah and Yom Kippur as well as Kol Nidre services on Erev Yom Kippur. The services are led by Rabbi Katy Allen and are a combination of traditional and nontraditional; they are informal and participatory for those who wish to add their voices. Morning services are held outside, or if the weather requires it, under an outdoor pavilion. There is time to sing, to appreciate the natural world around us, to meditate and pray, to read and discuss the Torah portion, to hear the sound of the Sofar on Rosh HaShanah, and to remember our loved ones during Yizkor on Yom Kippur. On the first day of Rosh HaShanah, our services are followed by a pot-luck lunch and then tashlich.
We will have a very different service on the second day of Rosh HaShanah - a hike interspersed with meditations, prayers, discussion, and the blowing of the shofar, and the day will include a picnic lunch - bring your own. We will through the fields and woods and end with a picnic near the Sudbury River.
Our Kol Nidre service is mostly indoors, but if weather permits we go outside for part of the service. We will also have a short Neilah service at the end of Yom Kippur followed by a pot-luck break-fast. All are welcome, including families with children. The sites for the first day of Rosh HaShanah and Yom Kippur are handicap accessible.
