Description:

Osteoporosis, a disease characterized by low bone density, will be the topic of a free discussion for women at the Leventhal-Sidman Jewish Community Center (333 Nahanton Street) in Newton on Monday, September 28 from 7-8:15pm.

According to the Surgeon General, by 2020, one in two women and one in five men over age 50 are expected to suffer a fracture related to osteoporosis.

Risk factors for osteoporosis, screening options and how diet and lifestyle choices can influence bone health will be discussed.

Joining Dr. Rozental will be Kempland Walley, a clinical research associate in the Department of Orthopedic Surgery at BIDMC. He is the lead researcher in a National Institutes of Health study focusing on bone fragility in postmenopausal women.
