Zamir Performance of Synagogue Music to be Performed in November
On Tuesday, November 17, at 7:30 pm, the world-renown Zamir Chorale of Boston will present Divine Majesty: A glorious revival of 19th century synagogue music at Temple Shalom, 175 Temple St., in West Newton. Under the leadership of Artistic Director Joshua Jacobson, and with Cantor Peter Halpern of Temple Shalom as soloist, you will hear some of the most glorious synagogue music ever written, music that has disappeared from many synagogues. These awe-inspiring melodies, composed by such illuminaries as Sulzer, Lewandowski and Naumbourg, were created for the Torah service and meant to represent the glorious revelation at Sinai.
Divine Majesty is a free concert (voluntary contribution encouraged) and is made possible by an anonymous underwriter in memory of Mary Wolfman Epstein and Cantor Barney Mould. Due to limited seating, reservations are required: zamir.org. For questions, contactmanager@zamir.org; 617-244-6333.
Special thanks to cooperating synagogues: Beth El Temple Center; Temple Sinai, Brookline; Temple Aliyah, Needham; Temple Beth Avodah, Newton; Temple Shalom of Newton; Cong. Beth El of Sudbury; and Temple Beth Elohim, Wellesley.
