The Briscoe Family and Adult & Family Education Committee are pleased to bring this screening of the award winning film Shalom Ireland to the TI community in honor of the late Dr. Joseph (“Joe”) Briscoe z”l. Shalom Ireland is a documentary about Ireland's small but remarkable Jewish community. The film features Robert Briscoe, the first Jewish Lord Mayor of Dublin, who ran guns for the Irish Republican Army during Ireland’s War of Independence and smuggled Jews escaping from the Holocaust into Palestine. Robert's son, Ben, followed in his footsteps and served in the Irish Parliament and as Lord Mayor. He was running for the European Parliament at the time of the filming. Other Irish dignitaries including the Herzog family are also featured in the film. Shalom Ireland was featured at the Jerusalem Jewish Film Festival and has screened at more than a hundred festivals, community centers, universities and synagogues around the world. From the outset, Joe was instrumental in conceiving and supporting completion of the film, and became a very dear friend of Valerie Lapin, the film’s Producer/Director. The Adult & Family Ed Committee is excited that Valerie Lapin will join us for the screening.
