SUNDAY, JUNE 26th. OPEN HOUSE at Temple Emmanuel of Wakefield

10am to noon:   Meet Rabbi Greg Hersh

                                        Bagels and raffles and more…

Temple Emmanuel of Wakefield is holding an OPEN HOUSE on Sunday, June 26th from 10am to noon to welcome Rabbi Greg Hersh to Wakefield and meet Temple members. Interested folks can bring friends and family to share bagels and coffee and tour the temple that was built in the early 1900s as a home for Congressman Thayer. Temple members will be celebrating the congregation’s 70th anniversary next spring.

Temple Emmanuel is affiliated with Jewish Reconstructionist Communities.  Reconstructionist Judism is a modern, progressive approach to Jewish life that integrates a deep respect for traditional Judaism with the insights and ideas of contemporary social, intellectual, and spiritual life.   The movement is based on the teachings of Mordecai Kaplan from the late 1920s to 1940s.

Rabbi Greg Hersh is a recent graduate from the Reconstructionist Rabbinical College in Pennsylvania.  He grew up in Connecticut, earned his BA in Philosophy and Religion at George Washington University.  Rabbi has also lived in Israel and Thailand in a Buddhist Monastery.  He has also participated in Tom Brown’s Tracker School in California where he developed an intractable love of the wilderness and was certified by Torah Trek as a Jewish Wilderness Guide in 2013.  As Rabbi, Greg will be able to combine his many interests such as music, teaching, and history to his work.  Greg is looking forward to working with those in the Wakefield area.

All services at Temple Emmanuel use fully transliterated Hebrew prayer books with contemporary translations and other beautiful commentaries and readings.  Shabbat Services during the year are held on the first and third Saturday morning at 9:30 and Shabbat Evening services on the second and fourth Friday evenings at 7:30.  High Holiday services and festival celebrations are held throughout the year as well as social events, Temple Reads, and Continuing Education programs.

Stop in on Sunday, June 26th, have a snack, and learn about what Temple Emmanuel and Rabbi Hersh has to offer. All attending will receive a chance to win a prize in our free raffle.
