Description:
|
Join us for an evening of learning and community as we welcome R. Daniel Roth, Director of the Pardes Center for Judaism and Conflict Resolution and Faculty Member at Pardes Institute of Jewish Studies. R. Daniel will be teaching on a topic that is both deeply connected to our organizing in this political moment and our upcoming celebration of Hannukah: Between Civil War and Nonviolent Demonstrations: How Best to Respond to Discriminatory Decrees? In this session we will compare and contrast the Jewish response to discriminatory decrees by the Greeks that caused the outburst of the Jewish revolt commemorated today on the holiday of Hannukah to the nonviolent response to later decrees by the Romans. How and when are nonviolent demonstrations helpful? When does resistance turn to civil war?
