“Whitechapel Noise: Jewish Immigrant Life in Yiddish Song and Verse, London 1884 – 1914” tells the story of London’s Yiddish popular culture through an historical lens. Lachs provides a window into Anglo-Jewish history, English socialist aesthetics, and music-hall culture. Archival material from the London Yiddish press, songbooks, and satirical writing help to illustrate the untold cultural life of the Yiddish East End.
