At Congregation Dorshei Tzedek in West Newton

What might it mean to imagine–and plan for–our own care at the end of our lives?  What does Judaism have to say about end-of-life decision-making?  What does taharah, the traditional Jewish preparation for burial, entail?  Whether you are wrestling with your own mortality or caring for others as they near death, this class is an opportunity for learning and discussion in the context of the Congregation Dorshei Tzedek community.  Drawing on Jewish texts and traditions, and new local resources including a Jewish hospice center and community chevrah kaddisha (burial society), we will delve into Jewish approaches to end-of-life decisions, burial and mourning practices, and what it means to care for ourselves and others at times of grief.

Classes are as follows - April 10: Jewish Approaches to Dying and End-of-life Decisions; April 17: Jewish Burial Traditions - Caring for Body and Soul; May 1: The Wisdom and Practice of Jewish Mourning.
