The Romance and Tragedy of Soviet Yiddish Culture

Start Date/Time: Friday, November 7, 2014 2:00 PM
End Date/Time: Friday, November 7, 2014 2:30 PM
Description:

Join us November 7-9, 2014, for The Romance and Tragedy of Soviet Yiddish Culture.

This course will be led by Professor David Shneer, Director of Jewish Studies at the University of Colorado Boulder and a two-time National Jewish Book Award finalist. Through lectures and discussions, Professor Shneer will provide an in-depth look at the lives of Soviet Jewish artists, writers, and culture-makers from 1919 to the present – and at the state that first empowered and then tried to destroy Yiddish culture.

The weekend will include four lectures by Professor Shneer, screenings of Soviet Jewish films, a special exhibit of the work of painter Felix Lembersky (1913-1970), discussions, a guided tour of the Yiddish Book Center, catered kosher meals, and more!
