Women Scientists in the First Decade of the Israeli State (1948-1958)
Pnina Abir-Am explores the centrality of women’s under-representation in science as an issue of public policy, faculty diversification and gender equity. She examines the contrasting careers of the first female scientists at Israel’s Weizmann Institute of Science (WIS), and seeks to establish whether these early career patterns prevailed in later generations of female scientists at WIS.
