The Ones We Carry: A Conversation with Writers Leslea Newman and Aurora Levins Morales
May 17th, 2:00 - 4:30 pm at Nehar Shalom
Join us for an afternoon of readings and moderated conversation with accomplished lesbian and queer Jewish writers Lesléa Newman and Aurora Levins Morales. Lesléa and Aurora will both read selections from their work; Lesléa will be reading from her newest book of poetry I Carry My Mother, which chronicles her experience accompanying her mother through treatment for cancer, her death, and the mourning that followed. After their readings, they will participate in a moderated conversation on themes in their work and lives: loss and mourning, healing and resilience, mothers and family, and the intersections of identity, writing, art, and life.
