Description:

The German Jewish philosophers Walter Benjamin and Martin Buber wrote about the ethics of history, materiality, and the Other. Each provided insight into the challenge of “being in the world with others” and each can be understood as representing a distinctly Jewish point of view. This course encourages deep reading of philosophical texts and seeks to understand how these two thinkers might inform a contemporary Jewish civics, or an approach to “being in the world with others,” that represents progressive Jewish values. 2 Sundays, February 5 & 12, 9:30 - 10:50 am with Temple Sinai member Eric Gordon, Associate professor at Emerson College. There is no charge for the class and all are welcome.
