Celebrate Sephardic Cultures at the Vilna Shul this fall!
From Spain to Morocco, Greece, Turkey, Israel, South America, Mexico, Cuba and the United States, the dispersion of Sephardic Jewry led to a far-reaching exchange of customs and ideas. This year, as the shofar is blown to gather people together, we strive to promote global awareness of the shared customs and traditions of these diverse Christian, Muslim and Jewish communities. As part of the evening’s theme, we will also learn about the “law of return” recently initiated by the government of Spain.
This cross-cultural evening includes performances from the Guy Mendilow Ensemble, the Hellenic College Choir, and Ladino poet Dr. Gloria Ascher, Tufts University Associate Professor and Co-Director of its Judaic Studies program. Our performers will be joined by photographer Michael Cohen and Reyna Simnegar, author of Persian Food from the Non-Persian Bride, the Consul General of Spain and the former American Ambassador to Spain and Andorra. In collaboration with the ADL and the Spanish Cultural Association of Boston.
