Author and Sportswriter Debate the Merits of the National Football League

Start Date/Time: Thursday, January 15, 2015 7:30 PM
End Date/Time: Thursday, January 15, 2015 9:00 PM
Category: Discussion
Description:

Two esteemed writers – a New York Times bestselling author and a Boston Globe sports reporter – face off in a spirited discussion about the National Football League at the Leventhal-Sidman Jewish Community Center (333 Nahanton Street) in Newton on Thursday, January 15 at 7:30pm.

Author Steve Almond discusses his latest book Against Football: One Fan’s Reluctant Manifesto. Almond details why, after 40 years as a fan, he can no longer watch the game he still loves. His critique exposes the dark underside of America’s favorite game. He will be joined by Boston Globe NFL/Patriots writer Ben Volin, who will present an opposing argument.

A craft beer tasting will be held after the talk. The event is open to the entire community. The program is part of the Ryna Greenbaum JCC Boston Jewish Literary Series. Cost is $10. Purchase tickets at www.bostonjcc.org/books or contact 617-965-5226 or boxoffice@jccgb.org.
