“He’s the world’s most famous Jewish cowboy. Heck, he might be the world’s only Jewish cowboy.” (KUDZOO Magazine, Fall 2014) He’s author, singer, raconteur Kinky Friedman, appearing at the Leventhal-Sidman Jewish Community Center (333 Nahanton Street) in Newton on Saturday, May 2 at 8pm.
Richard “Kinky” Friedman is a Texas country singer, songwriter, novelist, humorist and politician who styles himself after popular American satirists Will Rogers and Mark Twain. Outrageous and politically incorrect but always thought-provoking, Friedman weaves social and political commentary into his songs and stories. He draws from a lifetime of material, including touring with Bob Dylan (1975-76), a failed bid for Governor of Texas in 2006, and an appearance in the movie The Texas Chainsaw Massacre.
Opening for Friedman are bluegrass/New Orleans style musicians Josh Lederman & Friends. The show is part of the JCC’s Ryna Greenbaum JCC Center for the Arts and is co-sponsored by the Boston Jewish Music Festival. Tickets are $28.
