Hadassah-Brandeis Institute Artist-in-Residence
Tear/Repair (kriah/ichooi) by Andi Arnovitz
Tuesday, February 23 - Monday, April 26, 2010, Hadassah-Brandeis Institute, 515 South St., BrandeisUniversity, Waltham, MA
In Tear/Repair (kriah/ichooi), Hadassah-Brandeis Institute Artist-in-Residence Andi Arnovitz will create a new body of work, a series of paper coats for Jewish women who have impacted history and changed the world. These coats are an extension of Arnovitz's "Garments of Faith" series, which also will be on view. Each of these garments, fabricated from torn or intact papers, scrolls, and book pages, represents injustices for Jewish women. The works address challenges throughout history to the present, from halachic and spiritual issues, to those of co-existence, and above all, issues related to gender.
The Artist Residency will take place February 1 - 24, 2010 and the Opening Reception will be on Tuesday, February 23, 2010 @ 5pm in the Kniznick Gallery at BrandeisUniversity. Please visit www.brandeis.edu/hbi for more details as they become available. The 2010 HBI Artist-in-Residence Program is made possible thanks to the generous support of Avoda Arts, Arnee and Walter Winshall, and the SchustermanCenter for Israel Studies.
